Founder’s Council Member: Compassion International
Compassion International is a child advocacy ministry that works to release children from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty.
Compassion’s core focus is child development through sponsorship. They are deeply committed to the children and families they serve. Their work extends beyond simple involvement in their lives to long-term dedication and perseverance. Child development is a lifetime investment. It changes as a child’s needs change. It is personal, individualized and relational work that is tailored to the age, gender, health, culture and family situation of each child we serve.
Independent research shows that children who participated in Compassion’s program were more likely to attend secondary school and university, were more likely to be community leaders and more likely to have salaried jobs as adults than their peers who did not.
Here is what makes them distinct:
A Commitment to Christ
Jesus is the core of our ministry and his life and teachings shape their programs. They reflect the spiritual commitments of our staff. And they guide how they love people, respect communities and cooperate with nations.
A Commitment to Children
Child development through Compassion is all about the individual child. Each one receives the holistic care they deserve to realize their full, God-created potential in life. It is only through a careful blend of physical, social, economic and spiritual care that a child can fully mature in every facet of life and transcend a legacy of poverty.
A Commitment to the Church
Compassion partners with indigenous local churches for effective child development. They believe the strategic placement of local churches makes them best suited to address the holistic needs of the children in their communities. And only they can effectively deliver the Jesus-based teaching and whole-life care that children in poverty deserve
A Commitment to Child Sponsors
Compassion affirms these commitments to each person that sponsors a child with us.
A Commitment to Child Protection
In support of Christ’s mandate to care for and protect His little ones, Compassion is committed to safeguarding children in their programs from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
