Weekend Words of Wisdom #9

BlogCLA.DeepSeaDiverGo Deep

As I think of my own life and the counsel I would give to younger leaders, one foundational issue rises above all others – be a man or woman who goes deep in the word of God regularly and persistently.

This practice goes far beyond formal training. it is marked by the study of scriptures, a meaningful devotional life, and consistent application of the Word to one’s life.

Depth in the Word of God is the basis of all leadership.

Can a person do well without this?

Unfortunately yes, in the short term. However, we cannot live on yesterday’s walk with God. We are playing for the long haul in life and leadership.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

~ 2 Timonthy 2:15

You are spot on. I agree that “Depth in the Word of God is the basis of all leadership.” Growing up in my adolescence, I heard people ask me, “If you were stranded on an island all alone, what three items of choice would you bring?” I would say “The Bible” perfunctorily. 10 years later, now that I’m in my mid twenties – I can attest to the importance of The Bible. It has became real and palpably impactful in my daily life. Honestly, I am frustrated that this generation I’m in fails to acknowledge and take heed of the most important source of knowledge and wisdom ever…the living Word of God. That’s why I felt compelled to initiative a movement, called Salt+Light where I started to blog on this very subject (BLOG: I hope God will use me as His instrument to equip others to become world-changing and kingdom-minded salt and light of this world.
